Ethernet / PoE

Single CAT5e/6 cable from PoE switch carries power and data to the reader

OSDP / Wiegand

RS-485 to access control panel (OSDP v2) or Wiegand output via EAM

Wireless / Door Relay

BLE/NFC from mobile app; door relay output from EAM/GPIO to electric lock

Network Management

IP network to HID Origo or built-in web UI for enrolment and configuration

⚠️

VL35LF Installation Note — EAM Module

The VL35LF is supplied with an External Access Module (EAM). The EAM provides Wiegand input/output and door relay terminals. It must be mounted separately in the door frame or cabinet. The VL70LF includes native GPIO and Wiegand, eliminating the need for a separate EAM.

Wiring Reference

HID Amico — Connection Wiring Guide

Cable specifications and wiring requirements for each connection type

⚡

Power (PoE)

Primary power supply

  • CAT5e / CAT6 Ethernet cable from PoE switch
  • IEEE 802.3af minimum (802.3at / 802.3bt also supported)
  • Single cable carries both power and data
  • No separate PSU or 12/24V supply needed
💳

Network / Management

Ethernet to host and management

  • CAT5e / CAT6 from PoE switch to reader Ethernet port
  • 10/100 Mbps — same cable as PoE power
  • DHCP or static IP (configurable via touchscreen or web UI)
  • Default IP: 192.168.0.129 (changeable)
📡

OSDP (RS-485)

To access control panel

  • One twisted pair, shielded, 24 AWG, 120Ω impedance
  • Maximum run: up to 1,200 m (OSDP v2)
  • Daisy-chain or home run topology supported
  • Termination: 120Ω resistor at each end of bus
🚪

Door Lock / Relay

Via EAM module (VL35LF) or GPIO (VL70LF)

  • 2-conductor shielded, 18–16 AWG
  • Maximum run: 150 m (500 ft)
  • NO (Normally Open) + C (Common) relay terminals
  • Supports electric strike and magnetic lock
🔗

Wiegand (EAM)

VL35LF only via External Access Module

  • EAM connected to VL35LF via internal connector
  • Wiegand data lines: 26/34/37-bit formats
  • Carries REX (Request to Exit), door status inputs
  • Max cable run 150 m (reader to EAM)
Installation Overview

HID Amico — Quick Installation Steps

A structured four-step process from wall mounting to going live

01

Mount the Reader

Attach the supplied backplate to the wall at 1.2–1.5 m height. Route Ethernet and RS-485 cables through the backplate. Secure the terminal unit onto the backplate.

02

Connect PoE & Protocols

Plug in the Ethernet cable from a PoE switch. Connect RS-485 to the access panel (OSDP) or attach the EAM module (VL35LF) for Wiegand output and door relay.

03

Configure via Web UI

Access the built-in web interface at the reader's IP (default 192.168.0.129) or via touchscreen menu. Set network, time, identification methods, and access panel connection.

04

Enrol Users & Go Live

Enrol facial templates, RFID cards, and mobile credentials through the admin interface. Assign access groups and schedules. Test authentication before going live.

💡

PoE Installation Advantage

HID Amico's PoE support means a single CAT5e/6 cable is all that's required — no separate 12/24V power supply, no conduit for separate power wiring. This reduces installation time significantly and lowers both initial and ongoing maintenance costs.
