Replace Plastic Cards with Digital, Cloud-Managed Mobile Credentials
HID Mobile Credentials let employees, students, and guests open doors, access elevators, log in to PCs, and more — using the smartphone or smartwatch they already carry. Credentials are issued instantly over the air and revoked in seconds.
Product Overview
HID Mobile Credentials are digital access identities — the virtual equivalent of a physical access card or key fob — stored securely on a smartphone or wearable. Powered by HID's award-winning Seos® technology, they use Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and NFC communications to authenticate against compatible HID readers without any physical contact.
Credentials are issued, managed, and revoked remotely through the HID Origo™ Management Portal — a cloud platform that eliminates the need to physically collect and redistribute cards. Lose a phone? Revoke instantly. New hire? Issue a credential in seconds from any browser.
The solution supports the HID Mobile Access app (iOS and Android), Apple Wallet, Google Wallet, Apple Watch and other Wear OS wearables — giving organisations flexibility in how users carry and present their identity.
How It Works
Administrator Issues Credential
Via HID Origo portal — upload a CSV or add users individually. An invitation email is sent automatically.
User Downloads Mobile ID
The user taps the invitation link to download the HID Mobile Access app or add to their digital wallet.
Tap or Twist & Go to Access
Phone communicates via BLE or NFC to the reader. Biometric unlock adds a second authentication factor.
Manage & Revoke Remotely
Update permissions or revoke credentials instantly from the Origo portal — no card collection needed.
Capabilities
The same Seos technology used in HID's highest-security physical cards is embedded in every Mobile ID — offering layered AES-128 encryption, mutual authentication, and signed credential exchange for incomparable data and privacy protection.
BLE is the primary communications standard, supporting both iOS and Android across Tap (close-range) and Twist & Go (long-range) modes. Low power consumption means minimal battery drain on users' devices.
For Android users, NFC via Host-Based Card Emulation (HCE) provides the fastest possible tap-to-open experience, closely emulating the speed of a traditional contactless smart card presentation.
Manage all users, credentials, devices, and access rights from a single cloud dashboard. Bulk-upload users via CSV, view real-time activity logs, and enforce enterprise security policies — from anywhere, on any device.
Employees can carry their digital access badge alongside payment cards and boarding passes in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. iPhone users benefit from Express Mode — access even works with low or exhausted battery.
HID Mobile Access works on Apple Watch and Wear OS smartwatches. Google Wallet even supports dual-device provisioning — users can add their credential to both a smartphone and a smartwatch simultaneously.
No face-to-face card printing or physical distribution required. An administrator emails an invitation link; the user provisions their Mobile ID in minutes — enabling instant onboarding for remote or distributed workforces.
Administrators can enforce device-lock-screen authentication (Face ID, Touch ID, fingerprint, or PIN) before a credential can be presented — adding a second factor of identity verification at every door.
Most HID mobile-enabled readers can authenticate both physical cards and mobile devices simultaneously — enabling a phased, non-disruptive transition from plastic cards to mobile credentials at any pace.
Opening Modalities
HID Mobile Access supports two distinct gesture-based interaction modes, each configurable per reader location to match the environment and security requirements.
The Tap gesture mirrors using a traditional contactless card. The user holds their phone near the reader, typically within 30 cm (12 inches). It works via NFC on Android or BLE on iOS and Android, providing a familiar, fast interaction at high-traffic doors.
📏 Range: Up to ~30 cm / 12 inchesThe Twist & Go gesture leverages BLE's extended range. The user rotates their wrist while walking toward the reader — the door unlocks automatically before they reach it. Ideal for loading docks, parking barriers, or hands-free environments.
📏 Range: Up to 2 m / 6 ft via BLEPro Tip: Both modes are configurable per reader via the HID Reader Manager app. HID recommends maintaining consistent modality settings across all readers in a facility so users always know what to expect at every access point.
Digital Wallets
Through the HID Origo platform and certified integration partners, employees can add their corporate access badge directly to their preferred digital wallet — no dedicated app required.
Add your corporate badge to iPhone and Apple Watch. Supports Express Mode — works even with low battery power reserve. Face ID or Touch ID authentication available.
Available on Android smartphones and Wear OS smartwatches. HID now supports dual-device provisioning — provision to both phone and watch simultaneously.
The dedicated HID app for iOS and Android. Available on the App Store and Google Play. Supports Tap, Twist & Go, and Padlock modes. Compatible with tablets and wearables.
The HID Origo API enables embedding mobile credential issuance directly into existing HR, HRIS, or physical access control management software platforms.
